Leadership

Dr. Robert Blackmon grew up in Burkburnett, Texas. He graduated from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary with both bachelors and masters degrees in pastoral ministry, and he graduated with a doctoral degree in church revitalization from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. He and his wife, Kristen, have 3 boys: Roman, Remington, & Rexton. They came to Mexia in September 2024 from Bluegrove, TX.

Michael Phillips is our Minister of Music. He grew up in Mineral Wells, TX. He graduated from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary with a Master of Arts in Worship Leadership in May 2024 and received a Bachelor of Science in Music Therapy from Texas Women’s University in December 2021. He and his wife, Kaitlynn, have a son, Joshua. They came to us in July 2025 from San Angelo, TX.

Jay James served in student ministry at several other local churches before coming to FBC in 2026.

Kristen Blackmon began serving our youngest FBC Kids in 2025. She makes sure our Nursery and Preschool age kids learn about Jesus in a fun and safe environment.

Shawna Sterling is our full-time secretary.  She oversees all office work, publications, finances, & church contributions. She and her husband, Jim, have 2 sons and a daughter: Coby & wife, Robyn; Shannon; Matt & wife, Katherine. They also have six grandchildren.

Ann Talley is our part-time secretary with years of experience and knowledge of First Baptist Mexia. She has been employed at FBC since 1972. She has one daughter, Stacey, who lives with Ann's four grandchildren in Houston area.

Amanda Howard has been a member of First Baptist for several years and took over as Children’s Director in 2023.  She also works at Mexia ISD. Amanda has one son, Jackson.

Jim Sterling oversees all custodial and maintenance work of our facilities. He was employed by FBC in January 2025 after retiring from a 40-year career in the vending business. He and his wife, Shawna, have 3 children and 6 grandchildren.

Yimmi Montoya is our part-time custodian.  He pastors a local church. He and his wife have 3 children.

Toria Hale oversees the CLC daily operations.  Toria & her husband, Mark, are a great asset to FBC.
